Tone Reversal
Jay Mills, Tone Reversal, 2015, Acrylic
on Paper, 130cm x 130cm
This work ‘Tone Reversal`,
portrays the contrasts between light and dark by alternating the tone value of
a specific colour ‘Prussian blue`. The grid has forced me to work with clean,
bold, densely applied acrylic paints for this piece in order to maintain the
flat, geometric, precise form. Looking at Josef Albers`s experiments with
colour interaction I have conducted my own experiments into the effect of
background colour on foreground colour and the interaction that is demonstrated
by to two.
