About
I am fascinated with the effects
of colour, how we fell about colour, and as a viewer how we respond to colour,
focusing on the interaction between the viewer and their perception of colour,
line and space. Within my current I have been experimenting with modern
technology based resources and materials as well as traditional based media to
push boundaries of colour mixing and colour perception. My work explores how
colour in the urban environment, ‘artificial colour’, has impacted the way we
now use colour and the way modern environments have caused a dramatic
difference in the way colour is now perceived, creating altered environments
which jar with the colours found in nature.
Through prolonged viewing, the
work can be perceived to be changing; the colours intermingle and shift, deepen
and soften, and awaken and pulsate they communicate with one another, taking
the viewer on a phenomenological joy ride. Investigating the natures of
pictorial space and the expressive possibilities of colour, manipulating line,
whilst also utilizing the uncertainties of perception to play optical games,
propelling the viewer into an unrelenting optical experience that transcends
everyday concerns with how we experience colour in the 21st century.
