Colour Experiment #1
Jay Mills, Untitled,
2015, acrylic paint on paper, 130cm x 130cm
We as viewers play a
dramatic role in viewing this piece of work. The colour scheme throughout this
piece are not just random acts of apply paint to medium, but each colour is
next or adjacent to its opposite colour frequency, causing a constant play between
the two when looked upon by the viewer. The large scale presentation of the
piece is intended to entice the viewer, drawing attention to the use of bold
colours and varying colour schemes of unmixed paint by deploying it in large
fields that consume the viewer when seen at close quarters. The contextual
research that informed this piece of work was from looking at Rosalind E Kraus
essay 'grids`. The use of symmetry and geometric precise line that is
implicated by the grid has enabled me to contain and order colour.
