Cogs and Chains
Jay Mills, Cogs and Chains, 2014, plaster, 12cm x 10cm, 12cm x 10cm
As these pieces were only test samples I decided to try and push the material(plaster) to its boundaries, this enabled me to develop my techniques with sculpting plaster, finding out what material would work best for my final piece. I also found that when the plaster was moist it was easier to carve away however as the plaster dried it became more brittle and easy to break. Overall I really enjoyed making these sculptures because of how well i was able to control the shape of the plaster.
