Geometric drawing experiment
Jay Mills, Geometric drawing experiment, 2016, Pen on paper, 21 cm x 29.7 cm
From my visit to Middleport potteries and examining the pattern work throughout the building; in response to this I began to produce A4 pen drawings. With this piece of work I continued to incorporate the use of the grid that I intend to develop into larger scale works. This has enabled me to focus on structure, line and shape. I believe that the use of these elements in this drawing without colour alone create an almost optical confusion; however because this design is much more complex I have decided not to resolve this into a larger scale painting for the Middleport exhibition as this would not be able to produce this intricate of a design for the Middleport exhibition installation deadline. I still intend to resolve this piece of work into a large scale painting incorporated with colour.
