Octagon Perception Experiment Colour
Jay Mills, Octagon perception experiment (colour), 2016, Digital print on paper, 40cm x 40cm
My use of digital technology to produce this piece of work has enabled me to create hard edge, geometric forms that eliminate all traces of brushstroke. By reducing my subject matter to an extremely basic element, such as a series of broad line, juxtapose bold colours and a pattern that is merely multiplicity of simplicity. The result is an arresting interaction of hue and intensity, as well as the emergence of new spatial relationships. They are intent on visually assaulting and confronting the observer with perceptual phenomena such as irradiation, afterimages, and an incredible array of effects and aftereffects.
